Climate Change causes Death!!

With climate change being such a huge issue in today's world, it comes with many problems and conflicts. As the temperature rises, so do the heat related illness' and even death for some of the human population. Nobody should have to die because the world isn't being taken care of! I find that a little extreme. Climate change is increasing the speed of infectious diseases mainly because the warmer climate allows disease-carrying insects, animals and microbes to survive in areas they were once destroyed by cold weather.

My biggest concern is that insects or disease carrying life will be able to survive in areas that are originally of a colder climate. This is a huge threat and I don't think that this is natural. The World Health Organization estimates that climate change may have caused more than 150,000 deaths in the year 2000 alone, with a much higher increase of deaths in the future.

This is not how our Earth is suppose to function! The high temperatures are the ones to blame for the increase in heat-related deaths and illness'. Scientists have predicted that if emissions of heat-trapping aren't reduced, average temperatures could increase by 3 to 10 degrees Fahrenheit by the end of the century.

People are not meant to die because the Earth is too hot. All humans were born to live a fruitful and exciting life leading up to a peaceful and calm death. I do not want to die because the climate decides to change up it's original function.

Extreme heat waves have caused more than 20,000 deaths in Europe and more than 1,500 deaths in India. The heat waves are linked to the climate change and there is only more to come.

The way we live our everyday lives have the biggest impact on the climate and its changes. If we can all change our habits that negatively effect the Earth, there is a possibility of the number of deaths caused by heat-waves and climate change to decrease. We must learn to commute in an eco friendly way. Transportation causes about 25 percent of Canada's greenhouse gas emission.

I want to live in a world where we shouldn't have to worry about dying from the extreme heat. I want a change, and I hope to put this into action and see this put forth in the future.

Selfie Sticks Banned!

I can remember when front cameras became the biggest hit in society and a huge upgrade in the technological world. People could finally see their face when taking a picture of themselves! But that was almost 5 years ago. Now, you're telling me people can walk around and capture everything around them as well?

Selfie sticks are a debatable interest. I personally find them useless and harmless. Of course, if you attack someone attempting to use it as a lightsaber, then yes, it can be of harm. Concerts and events have banned selfie sticks due to their 'danger' to the common people.

People act as if the selfie stick is an extension of their body, kind of like an extra limb. I can see this being a problem. People using selfie sticks become unaware that the stick has extended to such a point where it does become a hazard to others.

I wouldn't want to be at a concert trying to enjoy my favourite music with a giant stick either poking me constantly or blocking my vision. I am at the show to enjoy the music, not dodge sticks and hope I get out alive and conscious. It's an interesting thought to think about how much creativity it must have taken to come up with such an idea.

50 years into the future, I see the world filled with robots

50 years ago, citizens in society were probably predicting that the year 2015 would be the year of flying cars and teleportation. Sadly, the cars are still only accessible on the road and the only teleportation we're doing is in our dreams. Since the day a sliver of technology presented itself on Earth to self driving cars, technology has taken over the world.

You will often hear, "We humans are way too reliant on technology". And indeed, this is very much true. I'm not saying you should remove all the lightbulbs in my house or disconnect my AC, but I am just as reliant as the next person. How much is tip? Oh, I can use my phone to calculate it. Are we going the right way or did we make a wrong turn? Wait, let me just use the GSP installed on my phone. I still haven't chosen a restaurant and my mom is flipping out! Oh, I can just SIRI it and have her decide for me.

When it comes to communication, think about the way people used to communicate maybe 50 or 60 years ago. If I wanted to say something to you, I'd have to write you a letter. Then wait a week for you to possibly write back? I wouldn't even know if you received my letter. I can hardly wait 2 minutes for a reply, let alone a week. Now, we have google glasses, telling me how many feet away you are from me.

There is a love-hate feeling with having to do nothing when trying to have a conversation with someone you aren't physically with. If I could just sit around and have my subconscious mind make all my decisions I would gain an extra 15 pounds, and my head would potentially be fried.

Life would lose purpose, and my thoughts, decisions and actions would be carried out through a little electronic device. Communication would lose meaning and personal touch, and eventually the world would be swarmed with robots. Technology is a blessing and a curse in this world.

I am only manly because I drive a big truck

This commercial in my opinion was sexist and stereotypical. Of course, the part where the supposedly brought in "real actors" must of created some sort of attraction to certain viewers. What was most realistic about this commercial was that they asked different groups of people (e.g. single women, kids, bearded men).

I found it a bit insulting to have people speak highly of the idea that being manly or macho meant having a big truck. This type of assumption and comment is purely based off of first impressions and appearance. When the two photos were compared, everyone automatically said the guy standing next to the truck is cooler. When this part of the commercial played, all I thought about was the saying,"Bigger is better".

I also recall a women saying that the man driving the smaller car would be a guy your mother would want you to bring home, versus what you would really want to bring home, which is the man standing by the truck. This just made me realize even more how sexist our society still is. I believe that you do not need big things and fancy cars to be considered manly, and that being manly in general is overrated.

Fresh Cuts

I laugh at this idea generally. Whoever came up with the idea of giving misbehaving children treacherous haircuts was both brilliant and comical. Overall, I believe that when you are a child, you are experimenting with the rules. And as parents, they have the authority to discipline their kids in a way someone else may not.

I do believe in a certain kind of punishment for children when they misbehave, although I don't believe this would personally be my choice in punishment. If my parents decided to shave my head when I did something bad, I would probably cry for a week straight and never do the bad things ever again.

In other situations, kids just don't listen. You come across the kind of children who are very obedient and the kind of children who are reckless and rebellious. I think this form of punishment also creates a laugh for those around them, just not the victim of the actual haircut.

I don't think anyone really wants to harm their children in any way, but when boundaries and limits are pushed, you have to do what you have to do. And if that means giving your child the haircut of a lifetime, then so be it.

Twitter Up In Flames

Twitter was intended for people to share their activities and thoughts with friends and possibly the world. Over the years, our society and the way people think have changed immensely. People have begun to think that it is okay to shame celebrities over social networking just because they are indeed celebrities and that their thoughts and comments wouldn't even reach or even effect them in any way. Personally, I don't understand why people feel the need to shame others they barely know for a purpose of simply self satisfaction or even just boredom.

It has come to the point where people have no issue shaming others through a computer screen, although no words are said if there is a real, live, personal interaction that requires verbal comebacks. Words are just words ultimately, but they do hurt. I don't like the fact that people can say so much on the internet but nothing in person, really afraid to show or speak their minds knowing they have been shaming others. Although social networks and Twitter especially were made for speaking our minds, it has come to the point where the thoughts kept up in our mind have crossed a border that has just come across and aggressive and ruthless.

People may think it is impossible to change the minds of nations and millions of people, but yes, every revolution starts with one. I think that more people need to realize that this attempt and use of social networks is very passive aggressive, and honestly, rude comments hurt. Whether it's somebody you're very close with or a complete stranger displaying their very personal thoughts of you for the world to see, they hurt and there isn't anything that changes that. A message of this specifically needs to get across the world to know that we are not here to judge or criticize others on things that are not needed. Very cliche, I know, but it's true. That goes for celebrities and just regular people living normal lives. Nobody deserves to be hurt over a screen.
